YOUR HEART KNOWS HOW YOU REALLY FEEL
Our brain is directly connected to our heart with a pair of nerves called the vagus nerves. These nerves run up either side of the neck and connect the brain with some of our internal organs, including the heart.
Enhanced Precision
HRV can indicate current or future health problems, including heart conditions and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.
Anxiety
Individuals suffering from an anxiety disorder are characterized by chronically low heart rate variability (HRV) compared to healthy individuals during resting state conditions.
Stress
With heart rate variability, reported stress unfavorably affects HRV at a 63% frequency. It also occurs a bit more often with women (64%) than men (62%).
Sleep
Non-REM sleep is broadly associated with a higher HRV. During REM sleep, the sympathetic (aka stimulating) system becomes much more active. REM sleep is broadly associated with a low and variable HRV.
The Science
Key Metrics of our well-being
Heart Rate Variability
(HRV)
Heart rate variability or (HRV), is a metric reflecting your body's capacities to recover from stress of all kinds and is a great evaluator of your overall well-being.
It represents the variation in time between each heartbeat and is a key indicator of changes in both physical and emotional states. HRV decreases under situations of stress and increases with rest.
This variation is controlled by a primitive part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and is the body’s way of maintaining the balance between thriving and surviving over time. It works behind the scenes, automatically regulating our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and digestion among other key tasks. HRV can indicate current or future health problems, including heart conditions and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.
